Going clubbing this Saturday night? This is one of my first chic experimental drawings for my fashion design. I had fun designing a bridesmaid dress (a commission, you can see it here [link]), so I wanted to continue designing!
Template or lineart was done in HB graphite. Then I edited in Photoshop CS2.
ok, first of all, you are an excellent illustrator and you draw fabric beautifully. i love how you illustrate the drape and you highlight and shade fabric wonderfully. You might want to make your girl taller if you want to achieve a more high fashion look. Usually, the girls in fashion illustration are taller by 1 or 2 heads then regular girls, mostly in the legs. The model can be plus size or skinny, does not matter, as long as she is tall.
In terms of the actual design - you show a good start and i think you should keep it up if you enjoy it. I love the way you draped the top in this one, and in the other one i love your attention to detail and the little faux slit on the bottom of the skirt. Your designs are not exactly fashion forward, and you can improve on that in the future. My advice would be to experiment with colour, fabric patterns and texture and of course garment shape. Try to go out of your comfort zone and think of some creative original ideas.
Also, you can look at hi-end fashion from style.com and see what is happening now. You will be able to find your own style if you keep doing it and keep yourself a bit informed.
oh and you can also join some DA fashion competitions, like LBM which is run by *Kallastyos . It really helps in expending your horizons and getting feedback from fellow DA designers.
Hi Genya! Thanks so much for answering. Wow! I must say! That's what I call constructive criticism! After going through some of your favorites, I began to see what you meant by 1 to 2 heads taller. I really need to make my future models taller! Also, thanks for the links. They where really helpful. I will definitely follow your advice about getting out of my comfort zone. I admire your work and I hope to see more of it soon! Thanks so much! Again!
